Kid Friendly Doormat

So a few months ago I tried to create a door mat with my little and let's just say it was a little less than a success than I had hoped for. We had cut out some images with the Cricut and used heat transfer vinyl and a blow dryer to get the vinyl to stick to the coir mat. We then attempted to paint inside the lines to create a cute pumpkin doormat. Well, I am not sure about you, but my tot prefers to be a little bit more Van Gogh with her artwork than Rembrandt!

Even though our mat was sort of a flop the last time, I still had one more doormat left over that I needed to use. I then got the bright idea that instead of trying to paint on the mat with a sponge brush, we could just stamp an image onto the mat instead!

Well, we gave it a try in an attempt to make a Valentine’s Day doormat and I am here to say that this method is 100% toddler-approved. I came prepared with a different set of supplies that left me with less mess, less stress, and a beautiful doormat to boot.

Listed below are the supplies needed and the steps on how you can make your own Valentine’s Day doormat.

COR Supplies:

·       Coir doormat

·       Acrylic paint

·       Sponges

·       Scissors

Step 1: Take your sponges and fold them in half.

Step 2: Take a sharpie and draw half of a heart shape

Step 3: Cut along the line of the heart. You can cut as many hearts as you want and can vary the shape if you want

Step 4: pour your acrylic paint on a paper plate

Step 5: Dip your heart-shaped sponges into the paint. Make sure you have a good cover of the entire surface

Step 6: Stamp your heart onto the Coir mat. Press down really hard to make sure the paint sticks. You might have to go back over the heart a few times.

Step 7: Allow the mat to dry

Step 8: Spray with clear Flex Seal to ensure the paint stays on the mat and you are all done!
